Forough Alaei was born in 1989 in Iran, where she studied law. She was also a keen painter. Forough started photography in 2015 and become a photojournalist for Donya-e-Eghtesad newspaper, the most famous economic daily in Iran. In a short time, she became fond of documentary photography and filmmaking. She got the first prize in World Press Photo Contest in sport category, the first place in POYi multimedia daily life and the first prize in Istanbul Photo Contest in sport category in 2019. Forough also won Getty Images Editorial Grant in 2020 and participated in VII mentorship program for two years. Her works have published in different media such as Paris Match, Time, The Guardian, Foreign Policy, Marie Claire, NZZ Newspaper, Amnesty International, Refinery29, America Again, De Volkskrant, De Morgen and others. Her focus is on women's right, social issues and humanities.
